To Be or Not to Be a Patriot

The Fourth Degree of Knighthood is Patriotism. Without faithful citizenry who love this Country and revere those whom God has set over it, our Nation shall decline. U.S. voters have the power to choose our civic leaders. This coming election, as all before it, shall have consequences. Those who are elected to office will take us somewhere. Where do we hope to go?

On November 3rd, or shortly thereafter, we’ll begin that journey. As servants of God, we should strive to be a Nation that honors God, that cherishes religious freedom, that stands for Judeo-Christian values and laws, and that seeks to be a peacemaker in an increasingly hostile world.

We shall differ as to whom should lead us on our journey. Our only guide is the voice we hear in our head. It’s often such a whisper that we can miss it. Isaiah 30:21 comes to mind: “Your ears shall hear a word behind you: ‘This is the way; walk in it, when you would turn to the right or the left.’”

Let us pray to hear that voice behind us, telling us the way to turn. We stand at a major crossroad – one path values our religious heritage; the other envisions a more secular America. Let none of us mistake our biases for His voice. God will guide us if we ask for, and desire, His choice.

Whoever prevails as our next President will do so because God appointed it. Daniel 4:14: “That all who live may know that the Most High is sovereign over human kingship, Giving it to whom he wills, and setting it over the lowliest of mortals.” Jesus told Pontius Pilate: “You would have no power over me if it had not been given to you from above.”

On God’s decision, we turn our prayers toward the man God chose, whether it is our choice or not. That is God’s version of a Patriot. God knows now whom He shall choose. May He guide us to support His choice now, and on the journey ahead. Peace be with you as you make your choice.
