We know God wants us to grow because He has said so:

2 Pet 3:18: But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Ephesians 4:14: We are not meant to remain as children but to grow up in every way into Christ.

Remember from 9th grade algebra? Rate x Time = Distance

If I’m going 5 miles per hour, it will take me 1000 hours to cover 5000 miles If I’m going 50 miles per hour, it will take me 100 hours to cover 5000 miles If I’m going 500 miles per hour, it will take me 10 hours to cover 5000 miles

Some of us took First Communion 25 or even 50 years ago. By now we should be mature. But we are poking along at 1 mile per hour. Some have stalled out. Not going anywhere. Just sitting there, causing a traffic jam behind them. Because the pace of our growth matters how can we speed up our development?

  1. To grow we need to eat-Meditate in the Holy Scriptures

  2. We need to breathe-Prayer

  3. We need good spiritual hygiene-Confession of sin

  4. We need a caring family-Fellowship

  5. We need regular exercise-Service

  6. We need to give-Stewardship

If our body isn’t healthy, we lose joy. Spiritual development and health increases joy. Seeing we all know these things, why aren’t we all practicing them? Lack of discipline. A disciple is a ‘disciplined one’. If we are not disciplined like this can we claim to be a disciple of Jesus?

It takes discipline to be a Knight of Columbus. If you would like to grow these habits in your life the Knights is your opportunity. God said to Pharaoh, “Let my people grow. When He established the Knights of Columbus in 1882 through the Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, He was saying, ‘Let my men grow.’ By your example and ours, others grow faster and further. Set a new pace for your growth today. (Portions courtesy of https:// bible.org/)
