There is the heroine, the villain and the hero. The hero and the heroine are made for each other. He will give his life for her if necessary. She needs him, but circumstances prevent them from being together. The ever present villain tries to capture the heart of the beautiful maiden. But she is doubtful, in spite of pressure from others, that he is right for her. She can’t get the hero out of her mind. A showdown between the hero and the villain looms. It will end in the death of one of them. The lady in waiting experiences anguish. Hopes and dreams hang precariously. But the noble, brave hero slays the villain, arrives on his white horse and claims his bride. They ride away to live happily ever after.
Jesus loves His bride in waiting – the Church. She longs for Him but they are separated until He returns. Meanwhile, Satan wants to steal her affections away from Jesus and claim her for his own. He hates Jesus and tried to destroy Him on a Roman cross. But Jesus bought His bride on that cross with His own life. He is coming for her and has planned a great marriage supper. A final battle looms first. The last chapter of this romance novel –the Bible–describes how this love story ends: Rev. 20:10: ‘Then the devil, who led them astray, was hurled into the lake of fire and sulphur, where the beast and the false prophet are…’
Rev. 21:2: I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride dressed for her husband.’ Our Hero has a banquet for his bride – you and me. Earth’s story is the cosmos’ ultimate romance novel.
